The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Nicolas Roland's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nery Pumpido read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 8th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sven-Edvin Jansson got free with Elpidio Vitin in the 9th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Elpidio Vitin made a fantastic save in the 12th minute, when Zico Zellier sent off a good shot on target. Nery Pumpido showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicolas Roland in the 15th minute of the match. Nery Pumpido made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicolas Roland in the 17th minute of play. In the 19th minute Nicolas Roland shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nery Pumpido saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Elpidio Vitin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Sven-Edvin Jansson, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 28 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for GuateFortín! Nicolas Roland took the ball and in the 31 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Nery Pumpido. Nery Pumpido dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Vélez Juniors's Elpidio Vitin proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to save Vélez Juniors from getting a goal against them. Orlando Coria could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 41st minute of the match, but Elpidio Vitin made a huge save.

After a rather tough play, GuateFortín's Orlando Coria got a free kick in the 53rd minute. 53 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goalkeeper Nery Pumpido had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Guido Luzaide. The audience was convinced that Zico Zellier's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Elpidio Vitin was relentless in the 55th minute of the game. After 55th play minutes Zico Zellier shot 1-1, a short shot which went by Elpidio Vitin and just under the crossbar into goal. Vélez Juniors's Cristian Naike was substituted for Bernardo Sayvion. Cristian Naike received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Nery Pumpido came out and tried to block the shot, but Cristian Naike slotted it home off the left post making it 1-2 in the 63rd minute. GuateFortín made a substitution. Mario Gomez replaced Stanyo Búnkov. In the 68thth minute of the game Cristian Naike who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Mario Gomez had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 70th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With a little luck, GuateFortín's Nery Pumpido got control of the ball when Nicolas Roland tried to sneak it across the goal line. Santos Fonda hit a great freekick 74 minutes into the match. Elpidio Vitin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Zico Zellier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After some fancy dribbling in the 77th minute, Guido Luzaide managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vélez Juniors's supporters rose to their feet, but Guido Luzaide was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Nery Pumpido breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 80th minute of the match GuateFortín got a corner. Vélez Juniors's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Angel Alvarenga ran over to the corner to take the kick. Nery Pumpido took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Cristian Naike, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 81 minutes into the match, GuateFortín's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Naike came free, but Nery Pumpido reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Zico Zellier had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 85th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A sloppy throw-in by Celedonio Eriz in the 89th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by GuateFortín's Angel Alvarenga. Cristian Naike sent away a hard shot on goal in the 91st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Angel Alvarenga hit a great freekick 93 minutes into the match. The GuateFortín supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Vélez Juniors's performance. The match ended with a win for Vélez Juniors.
