IFK Norrköping were awarded a corner in the 16th minute after England's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Jörgen Strömberg took the corner. It was a well-played corner which Cent Salomonsen managed to volley towards the net. Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. 19 minutes had been played when some careless play by England's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Jörgen Strömberg was slow to take the kick. During this time IFK Norrköping's players had a chance to rest. Patrick Andersson made a great header on IFK Norrköping's corner, it was just that England's Khalid Kennedy managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 24thth minute of the game Kyle Cox who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but IFK Norrköping's Barnaba Ziomkowski was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 26th minute Kyle Cox shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Barnaba Ziomkowski saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A nice corner shot did that Micah Macdonald got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Barnaba Ziomkowski quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. IFK Norrköping's Barnaba Ziomkowski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Xavier Gallagher in the 28th minute of play. Micah Macdonald received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 36th minute. Barnaba Ziomkowski tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 38 minutes, Micah Macdonald managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. England's supporters crossed their fingers, but Micah Macdonald was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 39th minute of the game. One of IFK Norrköping:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of England:s goal. IFK Norrköping:s Barnaba Ziomkowski showed great skill when he stopped Micah Macdonald:s penalty. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.
