Colo-Colo's Eladio Escalona proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 6th minute of the match, managed to save Colo-Colo from getting a goal against them. After 8 minutes Colo-Colo's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Mark Devia who took care of the corner kick. Ariel Balboa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Rubén Martínez, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. José Julio Almeida hit a great freekick 13 minutes into the match. Eladio Escalona was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 15th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Mark Devia. In the 16th minute, Orfilio Orbañanos fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Eladio Escalona, passed just outside the right post. An unexpectedly hard shot by Domingo Barcena in the 23rd minute of play forced Colo-Colo's goalkeeper Eladio Escalona to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Colo-Colo's Eladio Escalona proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 25th minute of the match, managed to save Colo-Colo from getting a goal against them. Eladio Escalona made an important save on a dangerous shot by Orfilio Orbañanos in the 25th minute. After a defensive mix-up in U. de Tarapacá's zone, Rubén Martínez stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ariel Balboa came out of the goal and Rubén Martínez tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Orfilio Orbañanos kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Eladio Escalona. That made the score 1-0 in the 34 minute of play. When the match had gone on for 39 minutes, Orfilio Orbañanos took a quick shot and it went in 2-0 without a chance for Eladio Escalona to make any attempt to save it. In the 42nd match minute, U. de Tarapacá was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Norberto Mangueira to maneuver through the defense. Ariel Balboa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rubén Martínez, who was totally free with the ball in the 44th minute. After 44 minutes of play, Colo-Colo's Rubén Martínez made it 2-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ariel Balboa was left in no man's land by his defense there! No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Orfilio Orbañanos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marco-Antonio Etcheverry got free with Ariel Balboa in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Eladio Escalona made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mark Devia in the 55th minute of play. With his leg Ariel Balboa managed to avoid a goal in the 58thth minute, when Colo-Colo's Reinaldo Christie fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Eladio Escalona showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Orfilio Orbañanos, who was totally free with the ball in the 63rd minute. Honorio Droguett recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 67th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. U. de Tarapacá's Yuan Zhen Lin was substituted for Kim Heers. Colo-Colo made a substitution. Emerson Pereira replaced José Julio Almeida. Eladio Escalona showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yuan Zhen Lin in the 82nd minute of the match. Reinaldo Christie had several of the U. de Tarapacá's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 84 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 2-3 score and a disappointed Ariel Balboa as he didn't even see the shot coming. After some careless play in the U. de Tarapacá defense, Rubén Martínez kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ariel Balboa. The U. de Tarapacá fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ariel Balboa should have stopped the shot. When U. de Tarapacá's Yuan Zhen Lin in the 93rd minute got a chance for a shot 93rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Colo-Colo's goalie prevented a goal. Colo-Colo's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
