In the 8th minute, Virgiliu Doroftei ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. John Osomo was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. John Osomo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Virgiliu Doroftei in the 17th minute of play. In the 18th minute Grêmio FBPA were awarded a corner. Stayko Vakareliyski went to the cornerflag to take it. In the 19th minute of the match Grêmio FBPA got a corner. PALMEIRAS CE - DMZ's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Stayko Vakareliyski ran over to the corner to take the kick. In the 21st minute, Luiz Paulo Marquez hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Andréas Linquist made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Matías Azevedo in the 22nd minute of play. The audience was convinced that Virgiliu Doroftei's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but John Osomo was relentless in the 30th minute of the game. After a rather tough play, PALMEIRAS CE - DMZ's Francisco Aparecido got a free kick in the 31st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Grêmio FBPA's zone, Matías Azevedo stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Andréas Linquist came out of the goal and Matías Azevedo tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Matías Azevedo got free with Andréas Linquist in the 44th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a rather tough play, Grêmio FBPA's Natã Ramalho got a free kick in the 45th minute. Sandro Mandrak blasted a shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Andréas Linquist having to make a save. After the first half Grêmio FBPA were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

In the 54th minute the ball was on its way in behind PALMEIRAS CE - DMZ's goalkeeper John Osomo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Matías Azevedo in the 55th minute of play forced Grêmio FBPA's goalkeeper Andréas Linquist to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. John Osomo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Virgiliu Doroftei in the 58th minute of the match. In the 67th minute, Matías Azevedo left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The PALMEIRAS CE - DMZ fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. PALMEIRAS CE - DMZ's Bruno do Vale was substituted for Francisco Aparecido. PALMEIRAS CE - DMZ's Dudu Fernandes was substituted for Ture Rosendahl. PALMEIRAS CE - DMZ made a substitution. Lúcio Garcia replaced João Arruda. 72 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goal looked a bit too open when Matías Azevedo came free, but Andréas Linquist reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Stayko Vakareliyski had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 78th match minute, PALMEIRAS CE - DMZ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Bruno do Vale to maneuver through the defense. John Osomo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Virgiliu Doroftei, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Andréas Linquist stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matías Azevedo's shot from short distance in the 81st minute. Virgiliu Doroftei struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. John Osomo didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Grêmio FBPA. In the 91stth minute of the game Matías Azevedo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Grêmio FBPA's Andréas Linquist was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Grêmio FBPA's Andréas Linquist played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ademar Rodrigues in the 93rd minute of play. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. Grêmio FBPA had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
