After a defensive mix-up in Grêmio FBPA's zone, Tomás Gois stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Silvinho Perez came out of the goal and Tomás Gois tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Silvinho Perez made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nélson Bentes in the 20th minute of play. Ted Hoogenkamp fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulo Fagundes having to interfere. The audience was convinced that Tomás Gois's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Silvinho Perez was relentless in the 29th minute of the game. Silvinho Perez took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomás Gois, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tomás Gois sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. A collision led to Grêmio FBPA getting a freekick after 39 minutes play. Alexsandro de Queiroz hit a great ball. Afonsinho Neto's late challenge caught a Lima Team's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Lima Team's Renato Vargas got a good chance for a goal in the 42nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 44th match minute, Grêmio FBPA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joélson Guimarães to maneuver through the defense. In the 45th minute, Nélson Bentes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Alexsandro de Queiroz was shown his second yellow card after 46 minutes, following a rather ugly tackle on opponent. That was the end of his participation in the match. The supporters of Lima Team booed when Grêmio FBPA was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 47 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alexsandro de Queiroz didn't get a good kick on the ball. 49 minutes into the match, Nélson Bentes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Silvinho Perez. Grêmio FBPA's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nélson Bentes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Edu Zonta was the one to do the kick off. Paulo Fagundes stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Edu Zonta's shot from short distance in the 55th minute. In the 58th match minute, Grêmio FBPA was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Edu Zonta to maneuver through the defense. 59 minutes into the match, Grêmio FBPA's goalkeeper Silvinho Perez had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nélson Bentes. Edu Zonta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulo Fagundes having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Lima Team's Angélico Ventura got a free kick in the 61st minute. When Edu Zonta came up free with the goalie in the 63rd minute, the Grêmio FBPA fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Edu Zonta couldn't finish the play. In the 67th minute of the match Jorge Recife shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Paulo Fagundes showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. After 68 played minutes Grêmio FBPA got a freekick which was hit by Osvaldinho Marquez. In the 70th minute, Valdir de Alcântara hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 72nd minute, Jorge Recife hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Nélson Bentes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 75th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Angélico Ventura kicked well hit freekick during the 78th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Edu Zonta in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paulo Fagundes saved Lima Team from getting behind. In the 85th minute, José Ramos hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 86th minute, Renato Vargas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Lima Team's supporters rose to their feet, but Renato Vargas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Silvinho Perez breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. If Edu Zonta had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Nélson Bentes could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 90th minute of the match, but Silvinho Perez made a huge save. Edu Zonta fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 97th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Paulo Fagundes having to interfere. When the final whistle went the supporters of Lima Team were delighted that their team had defeated the much more dominant Grêmio FBPA side.
