Anacleto Horado stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Rubén Martínez's shot from short distance in the 23rd minute. In the 24th match minute, Los Gallos was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lucas Aramburu to maneuver through the defense. After having played for 25 minutes, Rubén Martínez managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Colo-Colo's supporters crossed their fingers, but Rubén Martínez was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Marco-Antonio Etcheverry blasted a shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Anacleto Horado having to make a save. Guaberto Esdras hit a great ball. In the 47th match minute, Colo-Colo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lalo Vilchez to maneuver through the defense. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rubén Martínez was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Honorio Droguett in the 53rd minute of play forced Los Gallos's goalkeeper Anacleto Horado to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Eladio Escalona showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Vladimiro Jerold, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. Marco-Antonio Etcheverry struck a weak shot in the 69th minute. Anacleto Horado didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Colo-Colo. After 85th play minutes Rubén Martínez shot 5-1, a short shot which went by Anacleto Horado and just under the crossbar into goal. Colo-Colo made a substitution. Cheito Ramírez replaced Tomislav Parev. After some careless play in the Los Gallos defense, Ivo Basay kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Anacleto Horado. The Los Gallos fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Anacleto Horado should have stopped the shot. Colo-Colo's supporters were delighted with their team's performance and swarmed onto the pitch at the end of the match to celebrate the victory with the players.
