Filiph Biörling recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 10th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 16thth minute of the game Jozef Lewandowski who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Grêmio FBPA's Jardel Sanches was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 19 minutes into the game, Joel Afful threw the ball into play from the sideline. Grêmio FBPA's Kaká Rot quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. Pipis Karapatakis's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nikolay Bonkov read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Fitz Lambley stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Fitz Lambley struck a weak shot in the 52nd minute. The coaching staff of Grêmio FBPA protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Rafa de Almeida had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In a very dangerous position, a player in Grêmio FBPA fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 70th minute. Penalty! Jardel Sanches had in the 71stth minute some difficulties stopping Greg Gavan's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. Jozef Lewandowski fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 78th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jardel Sanches having to interfere.
