The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Charles Capixaba in the 3rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Marcelo Lomba prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 4th minute of the match C o n f i a n ç a - SE got a corner. Esporte Club Bahia's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Charles Capixaba ran over to the corner to take the kick. When C o n f i a n ç a - SE's Charles Capixaba in the 6th minute got a chance for a shot 6th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esporte Club Bahia's goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 12 minutes into the match, Esporte Club Bahia's goal looked a bit too open when Charles Capixaba came free, but Marcelo Lomba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The corner ended in Charles Capixaba almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Esporte Club Bahia's Marcelo Lomba did a great save. After a rather tough play, Esporte Club Bahia's Gernando Moreira got a free kick in the 15th minute. In the 16th minute of the match Charles Capixaba sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Marcelo Lomba skillfully saved the ball. After 17 minutes Esporte Club Bahia's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Charles Capixaba who took care of the corner kick. The corner led to C o n f i a n ç a - SE's Valer Donose getting away a dangerous shot that went just outside the goal. The audience was convinced that Charles Capixaba's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Marcelo Lomba was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. After 23 played minutes Esporte Club Bahia got a freekick which was hit by Viggo Lidström. In the 23rd minute Charles Capixaba shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcelo Lomba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 25th play minutes Charles Capixaba shot 0-1, a short shot which went by Marcelo Lomba and just under the crossbar into goal. Charles Capixaba's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Marcelo Lomba read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 28th minute of play. C o n f i a n ç a - SE's Charles Capixaba was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Marcelo Lomba in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After having played for 30 minutes, Charles Capixaba managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. C o n f i a n ç a - SE's supporters crossed their fingers, but Charles Capixaba was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Diguinho Carioca came out of the goal in the 32nd minute to try and stop a shot by Esporte Club Bahia's Viggo Lidström. But to his dismay, Viggo Lidström quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Charles Capixaba managed to get in a good position for a shot. C o n f i a n ç a - SE's supporters rose to their feet, but Charles Capixaba was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marcelo Lomba breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The supporters of Esporte Club Bahia booed when C o n f i a n ç a - SE was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 36 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jeremias Maia didn't get a good kick on the ball. Diguinho Carioca was a little too slow when Viggo Lidström got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 37th minute. The score was now 2-1. In the 40th minute Charles Capixaba shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcelo Lomba saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 42nd minute, Charles Capixaba ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Marcelo Lomba was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-2. In the 45th minute the ball was on its way in behind Esporte Club Bahia's goalkeeper Marcelo Lomba, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
When Yuri de Souza fell near the penalty area in the 51st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Esporte Club Bahia's protests and gave Yuri de Souza a yellow card for diving instead. Charles Capixaba could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 52nd minute of the match, but Marcelo Lomba made a huge save. When Charles Capixaba came up free with the goalie in the 54th minute, the C o n f i a n ç a - SE fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Charles Capixaba couldn't finish the play. If Jeremias Maia had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Marcelo Lomba was out of position in the 59 minute of play, and Jeremias Maia capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Jeremias Maia really showed his touch with that goal: 2-3. Charles Capixaba blasted a shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marcelo Lomba having to make a save. Viggo Lidström sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 73rd minute Viggo Lidström shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Diguinho Carioca saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 75 minutes into the match, Esporte Club Bahia's goal looked a bit too open when Charles Capixaba came free, but Marcelo Lomba reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marcelo Lomba made a fantastic save in the 93rd minute, when Jeremias Maia sent off a good shot on target. C o n f i a n ç a - SE's attentive Valer Donose managed to snatch the ball when Clóvis Passos made a throw-in in the 94th minute of the game. Marcelo Lomba made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jeremias Maia in the 95th minute. C o n f i a n ç a - SE's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
