After some fancy dribbling in the 4th minute, Tiberiu Caramarin managed to get in a good position for a shot. MIT Craiova's supporters rose to their feet, but Tiberiu Caramarin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Gigel Tilea breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After a defensive mix-up in Academia Rio's zone, Nicodim Orășan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gigel Tilea came out of the goal and Nicodim Orășan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. If Nicodim Orășan had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Tiberiu Caramarin hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. Gigel Tilea took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tiberiu Caramarin, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Nicodim Orășan received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 20th minute. Gigel Tilea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Gigel Tilea made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicodim Orășan in the 22nd minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tiberiu Caramarin in the 23rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Gigel Tilea saved Academia Rio from getting behind. 26 minutes into the match, Academia Rio's goal looked a bit too open when Tiberiu Caramarin came free, but Gigel Tilea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. MIT Craiova's Calistrat Madgearu played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Basarab Irod in the 27th minute of play. After 28 minutes, Dumitru Pantelimon mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Academia Rio and the MIT Craiova players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Academia Rio's Dumitru Pantelimon got a free kick in the 29th minute. After some careless play in the Academia Rio defense, Tiberiu Caramarin kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Gigel Tilea. The Academia Rio fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gigel Tilea should have stopped the shot. Academia Rio's Doru Dobrinescu was substituted for Marin Giubelean. With an all-out effort, Academia Rio's Calistrat Madgearu threw himself towards the right post 36 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Codrin Ionete, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. 38 minutes into the match, Tiberiu Caramarin had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gigel Tilea. Academia Rio's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tiberiu Caramarin was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. After the first half MIT Craiova were leading 0-3. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Basarab Irod to strike the kick off in the second half. The supporters of Academia Rio booed when MIT Craiova was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Radu Sărăroiu didn't get a good kick on the ball. Academia Rio's defense didn't have a chance, in the 57th minute, when Tiberiu Caramarin scored to the left of an out of position Gigel Tilea, making the score, 0-4. Gigel Tilea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tiberiu Caramarin in the 65th minute of the match. Gigel Tilea made an important save on a dangerous shot by Tiberiu Caramarin in the 71st minute. Academia Rio's defense didn't have a chance, in the 73rd minute, when Tiberiu Caramarin scored to the left of an out of position Gigel Tilea, making the score, 0-5. MIT Craiova made a substitution. David Tunander replaced Dorin Banu. In the 77th minute, David Tunander ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Gigel Tilea was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-6. MIT Craiova made a substitution. Fabian Geantă replaced Mihăiţă Ilarie. In the 82nd minute, Basarab Irod made a precise shot to the right of Calistrat Madgearu. MIT Craiova's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-6. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tiberiu Caramarin in the 87th minute of play forced Academia Rio's goalkeeper Gigel Tilea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
