In the 6th minute the ball was on its way in behind Steaua Bucuresti's goalkeeper Matei Trişcu, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Narcis Silişteanu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fabio Abalos having to interfere. Aurel Pandrea had several of the ionion's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 12 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 1-0 score and a disappointed Fabio Abalos as he didn't even see the shot coming. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ilie Surugiu in the 16th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Matei Trişcu prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Matei Trişcu didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Ilie Surugiu went, in the 17th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-1 was the resulting score. Niculae Moisescu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 20th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Matei Trişcu having to interfere. In the 25th minute, Aurel Pandrea ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Fabio Abalos was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-1. 28 minutes into the match, ionion's goalkeeper Fabio Abalos had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Aurel Pandrea. A collision led to Steaua Bucuresti getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Ionuț Drumeș hit a great ball. In the 30th minute of the match Ilie Surugiu sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Matei Trişcu skillfully saved the ball. After a rather tough play, Steaua Bucuresti's Traian Constantinescu got a free kick in the 33rd minute. Fabio Abalos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Emil Cernea in the 35th minute of the match. The throw-in from Aurelian Cicortaș in the 37th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by ionion's Răzvan Maghiar. In the 39th minute, Ilie Surugiu left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The ionion fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. In the 42nd minute, Aurel Pandrea made a precise shot to the right of Fabio Abalos. ionion's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 3-2. With a little luck, ionion's Fabio Abalos got control of the ball when Gheorghe Cunea tried to sneak it across the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Narcis Silişteanu in the 45th minute of play forced ionion's goalkeeper Fabio Abalos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-2.

A hard shot 54 in the game by Ilie Surugiu from a close distance when the talented Matei Trişcu managed to make a qualified save. Steaua Bucuresti's players were relieved. The corner ended in Eugen Albeanu almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Steaua Bucuresti's Matei Trişcu did a great save. The Steaua Bucuresti fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-2. In the 86th minute, Niculae Moisescu fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Matei Trişcu, passed just outside the right post. After a defensive mix-up in Steaua Bucuresti's zone, Ilie Surugiu stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Matei Trişcu came out of the goal and Ilie Surugiu tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 92 minutes into the match, Niculae Moisescu dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Matei Trişcu, 4-3. After 98 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Steaua Bucuresti! In the 101st minute, the referee gave ionion a penalty. Ilie Surugiu looked confident and blasted the ball into goal by the left post, totally unstoppable for Matei Trişcu.
