The audience thought a goal was coming when Jullian Vranx got free with Vítor Baia in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Willy Van Linthout showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Guido Vissenaeken in the 14th minute of the match. Willy Van Linthout took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Guido Vissenaeken, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Brugge United's Vítor Baia proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 23rd minute of the match, managed to save Brugge United from getting a goal against them. Ümit Karan fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Willy Van Linthout having to interfere. In the 32nd minute the ball was on its way in behind Bruly's goalkeeper Willy Van Linthout, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Willy Van Linthout was left in no man's land by his defense there! The crowd rose to their feet as Bruly's Thys Mangelschot slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Vítor Baia. That made the score 1-4 after 39 minutes of play. Willy Van Linthout showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Guido Vissenaeken, who was totally free with the ball in the 45th minute. Disappointed in the 1-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

But to his dismay, Guido Vissenaeken quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-6. In the 75th minute, Arnauld Van Impe made a precise shot to the right of Willy Van Linthout. Bruly's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-7. Willy Van Linthout made a fantastic save in the 78th minute, when Arnauld Van Impe sent off a good shot on target. The supporters of Brugge United booed when Bruly was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 78 match minutes in a wonderful position. Thys Mangelschot didn't get a good kick on the ball. The crowd rose to their feet as Arnauld Van Impe kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Willy Van Linthout. That made the score 1-8 in the 86 minute of play. The supporters of Bruly booed when Brugge United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Will Deman didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 97th minute Javier Van Landschoot shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vítor Baia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Brugge United eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
