The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. When Kraig Fred came up free with the goalie in the 6th minute, the Estudiantes de América fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Kraig Fred couldn't finish the play. 13 minutes into the match, El retorno del Pincha's goalkeeper André Zonta had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cornelio Ruisko. Marcos Ranolfo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Armando Inautzi in the 18th minute of play. 20 minutes into the match, El retorno del Pincha's goalkeeper André Zonta had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cornelio Ruisko. André Zonta made a fantastic save in the 21st minute, when Cornelio Ruisko sent off a good shot on target. Cornelio Ruisko could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 24th minute of the match, but André Zonta made a huge save. André Zonta made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Kraig Fred in the 27th minute of play. 28 minutes into the match, Estudiantes de América's goal looked a bit too open when Armando Inautzi came free, but Marcos Ranolfo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Marcos Ranolfo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Maximino Lope, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. In the 34th minute, Maximino Lope ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Marcos Ranolfo was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Estudiantes de América's Marcos Ranolfo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sven Thorsberg in the 63rd minute of play. 66 minutes into the match, Estudiantes de América's goal looked a bit too open when Sven Thorsberg came free, but Marcos Ranolfo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Sven Thorsberg got free with Marcos Ranolfo in the 67th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 71st minute the ball was on its way in behind Estudiantes de América's goalkeeper Marcos Ranolfo, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Estudiantes de América's Concetto Trasatti was substituted for Kraig Fred. Estudiantes de América made a substitution. Orlando Beltza replaced Cornelio Ruisko. In the 78th minute Traian Blăniță shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but André Zonta saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
