The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Branislav Velchevski played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Juan Cedro in the 4th minute of play. Einar Holmberg stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Elpidio Francis's shot from short distance in the 5th minute. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Elpidio Francis in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Einar Holmberg saved Ascacibar-Pérez from getting behind. Elpidio Francis's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Einar Holmberg read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 14th minute of play. In the 15th minute ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA were awarded a corner. Miguel Prosperi went to the cornerflag to take it. 25 minutes into the game, Elpidio Francis cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Einar Holmberg was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Ascacibar-Pérez's Einar Holmberg played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Elpidio Francis in the 28th minute of play. 30 minutes into the match, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's goal looked a bit too open when Juan Cedro came free, but Branislav Velchevski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 38th minute Elpidio Francis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Einar Holmberg saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Ascacibar-Pérez getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Cleto Estavan hit a great ball. 41 minutes into the match, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Miguel Prosperi broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Einar Holmberg made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miguel Prosperi in the 46th minute of play. 47 minutes into the match, Ascacibar-Pérez's goal looked a bit too open when Elpidio Francis came free, but Einar Holmberg reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

Branislav Velchevski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Juan Cedro in the 59th minute of the match. In the 61st minute, Casimiro Orain hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 66 minutes into the match, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Elpidio Francis sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Einar Holmberg narrowly saved just below the crossbar. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Arnaldo Gabon was substituted for Miguel Prosperi. In the 68th minute ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA were awarded a corner. Venancio Havier went to the cornerflag to take it. After 71 played minutes ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA got a freekick which was hit by Bonifacio Suarez. The supporters of ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA booed when Ascacibar-Pérez was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcelino Txurio didn't get a good kick on the ball. 78 minutes into the game, Ascacibar-Pérez's Marcelino Txurio nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Branislav Velchevski made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Einar Holmberg took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Elpidio Francis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the referee blew the final whistle, you could see the dissatisfaction in the ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA players' eyes. They were disappointed they hadn't taken more from the game.
