The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Éder Madureira recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 5th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leif Törnqvist in the 7th minute of play forced Sagarana Clube's goalkeeper Benedito Trigo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After 11 played minutes Sagarana Clube got a freekick which was hit by Wilson Valladares. Sagarana Clube's Benedito Trigo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Niilo Mikkola in the 11th minute of play. Dinei Pinheiro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Serafim Barros in the 13th minute of play. Benedito Trigo showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leif Törnqvist, who was totally free with the ball in the 16th minute. After some careless play in the Sagarana Clube defense, Leif Törnqvist kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Benedito Trigo. The Sagarana Clube fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Benedito Trigo should have stopped the shot. 19 minutes into the match, Sagarana Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Niilo Mikkola came free, but Benedito Trigo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When SeleSantos FC's Niilo Mikkola in the 22nd minute got a chance for a shot 22nd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Sagarana Clube's goalie prevented a goal. SeleSantos FC's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Niilo Mikkola in the 23rd minute. SeleSantos FC's Niilo Mikkola was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Benedito Trigo in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 24th minute of the match SeleSantos FC got a corner. Sagarana Clube's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Niilo Mikkola ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner ended in Niilo Mikkola almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Sagarana Clube's Benedito Trigo did a great save. In the 24th minute, one of Sagarana Clube:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Sagarana Clube. The referee gave SeleSantos FC a penalty, 25 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Niilo Mikkola, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Sagarana Clube's Benedito Trigo. 0-2. Marco Torres received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Dinei Pinheiro tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Sagarana Clube's Rupert Dearden got a free kick in the 31st minute. In the 32nd minute of the match Niilo Mikkola shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Benedito Trigo showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Benedito Trigo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Niilo Mikkola in the 38th minute of play. If Marco Torres had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 39th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 47th minute Sagarana Clube were awarded a corner. Serafim Barros went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner ended in Serafim Barros almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but SeleSantos FC's Dinei Pinheiro did a great save. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

With a left leg Dinei Pinheiro saved SeleSantos FC from getting behind. Dinei Pinheiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Serafim Barros in the 73rd minute of the match. 74 minutes had been played when some careless play by SeleSantos FC's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Serafim Barros was slow to take the kick. During this time Sagarana Clube's players had a chance to rest. Sagarana Clube's Bruno Salles was substituted for Éder Madureira. Sagarana Clube made a substitution. Zé Roberto da Costa replaced Beto Heidemann. Sagarana Clube made a substitution. Yu Yang Sang replaced Serafim Barros. Juninho Sergipano charged in rather forcefully in the 91st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The supporters of Sagarana Clube booed when SeleSantos FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 91 match minutes in a wonderful position. Juninho Sergipano didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dinei Pinheiro showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Yu Yang Sang in the 92nd minute of the match. 93 minutes into the match, Sagarana Clube's goal looked a bit too open when Leif Törnqvist came free, but Benedito Trigo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 95th match minute, SeleSantos FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Norberto Trevisan to maneuver through the defense. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. SeleSantos FC had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
