When the match clock showed 5 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Willie Colon sped through Atlético Nacional's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Teodoro Peio. Chuan Cintron made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Carlos Alberto Azevedo in the 14th minute of play. If Carlos Alberto Azevedo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Willie Colon's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Teodoro Peio read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 20th minute of play. Atlético Municipal's attentive Azubeli Roman managed to snatch the ball when Nicanor Karmel made a throw-in in the 24th minute of the game. 27 minutes into the game, Willie Colon cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-2. Teodoro Peio was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Teodoro Peio showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Willie Colon, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. In the 39thth minute of the game Willie Colon who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Atlético Nacional's Teodoro Peio was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Atlético Nacional's Teodoro Peio played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Willie Colon in the 44th minute of play. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Carlos Alberto Azevedo to make the kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Héctor Lavø during the 53rd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 61st minute of the match, Willie Colon got a very nice opportunity to score, but Teodoro Peio was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. If Willie Colon had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 63rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to Atlético Nacional getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Nicanor Karmel hit a great ball. In the 71stth minute of the game Carlos Alberto Azevedo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Atlético Municipal's Chuan Cintron was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Willie Colon took the ball and in the 73 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Teodoro Peio. Teodoro Peio dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-3. A collision led to Atlético Municipal getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Gau Resto hit a great ball. Atlético Municipal's Henry Fiola was substituted for Andoni Viguri. In the 77th minute, Gau Resto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Chuan Cintron made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Baldomero Rodas in the 78th minute of play. Chuan Cintron stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Carlos Alberto Azevedo's shot from short distance in the 79th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vicente Sasoin in the 83rd minute of play forced Atlético Municipal's goalkeeper Chuan Cintron to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Atlético Nacional were awarded a corner in the 84th minute after Atlético Municipal's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Baldomero Rodas took the corner. 91 minutes into the game, Nicanor Karmel threw the ball into play from the sideline. Atlético Municipal's Cordero Gipils quickly snatched the ball and retained possesion. When Atlético Municipal's Willie Colon in the 94th minute got a chance for a shot 94th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Atlético Nacional's goalie prevented a goal. If Gau Resto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. Atlético Municipal walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
