With a little luck, El Pulpo Paceño's Nicanor Ascencio got control of the ball when Fernando Abar tried to sneak it across the goal line. Sporting Cristal's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Sedeni Abellaneda in the 15th minute. After taking down the ball on Sporting Cristal's corner Fernando Abar fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Nicanor Ascencio quite easily take care of the ball. If Svetoslav Genkov had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 18th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 19 minutes into the game, Honorio Abecia was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Sporting Cristal's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave El Pulpo Paceño the free kick. The supporters of El Pulpo Paceño booed when Sporting Cristal was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Honorio Abecia didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 21st minute Berriotxoa Abadie shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gonzalo Berdugo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Maicon Borges in the 37th minute of play forced Sporting Cristal's goalkeeper Gonzalo Berdugo to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 39th match minute, El Pulpo Paceño was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joélson Guerra to maneuver through the defense. Aristides Lluc sent away a hard shot on goal in the 41st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Fernando Abar stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd minute, Oskarbi Abancens made a precise shot to the right of Nicanor Ascencio. El Pulpo Paceño's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0. In the 58th minute, Fernando Abar got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. A hard shot 60 in the game by Aristides Lluc from a close distance when the talented Gonzalo Berdugo managed to make a qualified save. Sporting Cristal's players were relieved. A collision led to Sporting Cristal getting a freekick after 61 minutes play. Cipriano Abeita hit a great ball. Gonzalo Berdugo made a fantastic save in the 64th minute, when Maicon Borges sent off a good shot on target. 69 minutes into the game, Mino Abellaneda was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Gonzalo Berdugo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-1. Aristides Lluc fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 77th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Gonzalo Berdugo having to interfere. Svetoslav Genkov hit a great freekick 78 minutes into the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fernando Abar in the 79th minute of play forced El Pulpo Paceño's goalkeeper Nicanor Ascencio to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 81 minutes into the match, El Pulpo Paceño's goal looked a bit too open when Oskarbi Abancens came free, but Nicanor Ascencio reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Oskarbi Abancens received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 84th minute. Nicanor Ascencio tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 88 minutes into the game, Fernando Abar cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 3-1. Nicanor Ascencio was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. 96 minutes into the game, El Pulpo Paceño's Aristides Lluc nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Gonzalo Berdugo made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-2.
