Du Esporte Clube's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Anastasios Tragas was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the match had gone on for 52 minutes, Anastasios Tragas took a quick shot and it went in 0-2 without a chance for Markus Pflüger to make any attempt to save it. After some fancy dribbling in the 56th minute, Silvinho Pombal managed to get in a good position for a shot.
