A collision led to Jovens Democratas MZC getting a freekick after 2 minutes play. Wilian Antunes hit a great ball. Dudu de Toledo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Maicon de Amorim, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 8th minute Maicon de Amorim shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dudu de Toledo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Edvaldo Costa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jânio Guimarães, who was totally free with the ball in the 14th minute. With a little luck, Scarlet Speedster's Dudu de Toledo got control of the ball when Maicon de Amorim tried to sneak it across the goal line. The supporters of Jovens Democratas MZC booed when Scarlet Speedster was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 19 match minutes in a wonderful position. Lino Paiva didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 20 played minutes, Jovens Democratas MZC's Otávio Montenegro shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Dudu de Toledo came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Jovens Democratas MZC reached it. Dudu de Toledo came out of the goal in the 28th minute to try and stop a shot by Jovens Democratas MZC's Sérgio Chaves. But to his dismay, Sérgio Chaves quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Maicon de Amorim fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 31st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dudu de Toledo having to interfere. In the 37thth minute of the game Jânio Guimarães who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Jovens Democratas MZC's Edvaldo Costa was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Edvaldo Costa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jânio Guimarães in the 41st minute of play. Narciso Bueno received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 46th minute. Edvaldo Costa tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Maicon de Amorim fell near the penalty area in the 48th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Jovens Democratas MZC's protests and gave Maicon de Amorim a yellow card for diving instead. In the 48th match minute, Jovens Democratas MZC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Maicon de Amorim to maneuver through the defense. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jânio Guimarães was the one to do the kick off. In the 53rd minute of the match Otávio Montenegro sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Dudu de Toledo skillfully saved the ball. After having played for 70 minutes, Sérgio Chaves managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Jovens Democratas MZC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Sérgio Chaves was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The crowd rose to their feet as Scarlet Speedster's Jânio Guimarães slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Edvaldo Costa. That made the score 1-1 after 74 minutes of play.
