Josué Pinheiro started the match with the kick off. 4 minutes into the match, GRÊMIO's goal looked a bit too open when Gilmar Borges came free, but Sergio Goicoechea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Josué Pinheiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Sergio Goicoechea tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some careless play in the GRÊMIO defense, Gilmar Borges kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Sergio Goicoechea. The GRÊMIO fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Sergio Goicoechea should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers 史挺南 in the 16th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ademir Baptista saved Matungo Gaúcho from getting behind. In the 21st minute, Josué Pinheiro got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Sergio Goicoechea showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Josué Pinheiro in the 24th minute of the match. GRÊMIO's Sergio Goicoechea played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Josué Pinheiro in the 26th minute of play. Sergio Goicoechea took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Patrik Grönberg, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Josué Pinheiro in the 33rd minute of play forced GRÊMIO's goalkeeper Sergio Goicoechea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. One of Matungo Gaúcho:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of GRÊMIO:s goal. After some careless play in the Matungo Gaúcho defense, Silvério Pinheiro kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ademir Baptista. The Matungo Gaúcho fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ademir Baptista should have stopped the shot. Ademir Baptista took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tiago Xavier, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. When the match had gone on for 47 minutes, Tiago Xavier put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Ademir Baptista. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell 史挺南 to make the kick off. 龙森景 was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. A collision led to Matungo Gaúcho getting a freekick after 53 minutes play. 龙森景 hit a great ball. With a little luck, GRÊMIO's Sergio Goicoechea got control of the ball when Wong Eadan tried to sneak it across the goal line. Ademir Baptista showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 史挺南, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. Patrik Grönberg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 61st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. GRÊMIO's Sergio Goicoechea played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Gilmar Borges in the 63rd minute of play. 67 minutes into the match, Matungo Gaúcho's Gilmar Borges sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Sergio Goicoechea narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Wong Eadan could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 69th minute of the match, but Sergio Goicoechea made a huge save. Patrik Grönberg sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sergio Goicoechea was out of position in the 76 minute of play, and Wong Eadan capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Wong Eadan really showed his touch with that goal: 2-3. Ademir Baptista came out of the goal in the 79th minute to try and stop a shot by GRÊMIO's Abel Pirani. But to his dismay, Abel Pirani quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-3. After a defensive mix-up in GRÊMIO's zone, Patrik Grönberg stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Sergio Goicoechea came out of the goal and Patrik Grönberg tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 90 minutes into the match, GRÊMIO's goal looked a bit too open when Wong Eadan came free, but Sergio Goicoechea reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Patrik Grönberg got free with Sergio Goicoechea in the 91st minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Abel Pirani took the ball and in the 92 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ademir Baptista. Ademir Baptista dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 4-3. GRÊMIO's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
