An unexpectedly hard shot by Nicolas Roland in the 9th minute of play forced Velez Sarsfield's goalkeeper Erwin Huygens to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 13 minutes into the match, Nicolas Roland had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Erwin Huygens. Velez Sarsfield's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nicolas Roland was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Erwin Huygens showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nicolas Roland in the 18th minute of the match. In the 20th match minute, Velez Sarsfield was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gaston Ávila to maneuver through the defense. 21 minutes into the match, Velez Sarsfield's goal looked a bit too open when Nicolas Roland came free, but Erwin Huygens reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Elpidio Vitin made a fantastic save in the 23rd minute, when Augusto Cordario sent off a good shot on target. If Nicolas Roland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 37th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. After 39 minutes, Ando Averin mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Velez Sarsfield and the Vélez Juniors players grew even worse after the yellow card. After 39 played minutes Velez Sarsfield got a freekick which was hit by Ando Averin. After having played for 48 minutes, Guido Luzaide managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Vélez Juniors's supporters crossed their fingers, but Guido Luzaide was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Nicolas Roland stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Velez Sarsfield's Erwin Huygens played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nicolas Roland in the 55th minute of play. In the 59th minute, Nicolas Roland made a precise shot to the right of Erwin Huygens. Velez Sarsfield's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-3. After some careless play in the Vélez Juniors defense, Augusto Cordario kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Elpidio Vitin. The Vélez Juniors fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Elpidio Vitin should have stopped the shot. Velez Sarsfield's Erwin Huygens played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Naike in the 71st minute of play. Velez Sarsfield's Leandro Berti was substituted for Ignacio Berenguer. When Gaston Ávila fell near the penalty area in the 78th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Velez Sarsfield's protests and gave Gaston Ávila a yellow card for diving instead. Severo Maule got a throw-in 89 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Guido Luzaide. With a little luck, Velez Sarsfield's Erwin Huygens got control of the ball when Nicolas Roland tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 92nd minute Cristian Naike shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Erwin Huygens saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vélez Juniors's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
