Francana got a freekick which was hit by Charlie Boström. 8 minutes into the match, Club Athletico Paulistano's Fabinho dos Santos sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Renan Melo narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Club Athletico Paulistano's Arnaldo de Sena was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Renan Melo in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Renan Melo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Fabinho dos Santos in the 12th minute of play. After a defensive mix-up in Club Athletico Paulistano's zone, Bernardo Bettencourt stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Acácio Lara came out of the goal and Bernardo Bettencourt tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 20th minute of the match Club Athletico Paulistano got a corner. A.A. Francana's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Saad Dar ran over to the corner to take the kick. Club Athletico Paulistano's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Saad Dar in the 22nd minute. Club Athletico Paulistano's Eliseu Mendes was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Renan Melo in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. In the 25th minute Fabinho dos Santos shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Renan Melo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Club Athletico Paulistano's Arnaldo de Sena quite brazenly broke a throw-in by Caetano Pique, made in the 27th minute of the game. Renan Melo showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Fabinho dos Santos in the 28th minute of the match. 29 minutes had been played when some careless play by A.A. Francana's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Saad Dar was slow to take the kick. The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Fabinho dos Santos stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 51st match minute, Club Athletico Paulistano was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Caetano Pelé to maneuver through the defense. 58 minutes into the match, A.A. Francana's goal looked a bit too open when Fabinho dos Santos came free, but Renan Melo reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Aykut Canel had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 59th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead.
