In the 5th minute of the match, Richard Mendonça tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Esen Sanal saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. After some fancy dribbling in the 6th minute, Krisztián Véber managed to get in a good position for a shot. S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's supporters rose to their feet, but Krisztián Véber was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Eduardo Baiano breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Esen Sanal made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Richard Mendonça in the 9th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Lucio Siekkötter in the 10th minute of play forced Inter Gala's goalkeeper Eduardo Baiano to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Edgar Souto got free with Esen Sanal in the 14th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. 16 minutes into the match, Inter Gala's goal looked a bit too open when Lucio Siekkötter came free, but Eduardo Baiano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Eduardo Baiano came out of the goal in the 31st minute to try and stop a shot by S.E.R. Caxias do Sul's Krisztián Véber. But to his dismay, Krisztián Véber quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. 35 minutes into the match, Inter Gala's goal looked a bit too open when Breno Vergílio came free, but Eduardo Baiano reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Breno Vergílio sent away a hard shot on goal in the 36th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Eduardo Baiano took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ricardinho de Senna, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After the first half S.E.R. Caxias do Sul were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Jaime Rodrigues to strike the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute Krisztián Véber shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Eduardo Baiano saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Inter Gala's Eduardo Baiano proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 59th minute of the match, managed to save Inter Gala from getting a goal against them.
