The audience thought a goal was coming when Adalberto Vianna got free with Hélio Furtado in the 83rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A hard and well directed shot from Perivaldo Pitta led 89 minutes into the game to a goal after the ball had bounced deceptively just in front of the goal.
