Sport Club Mavericks's supporters crossed their fingers, but Virgílio Bastos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After 6 played minutes Sport Club Mavericks got a freekick which was hit by Virgílio Bastos. In the 11th minute, Castanheiro SC's Umberto Dionísio ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Amadeu Prado. Amadeu Prado yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. The audience was convinced that Umberto Dionísio's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Amadeu Prado was relentless in the 23rd minute of the game. After 25 minutes Sport Club Mavericks's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Anísio Alagoano who took care of the corner kick. Benedito Mineiro was in a good position and managed to take a shot, but he missed just to the outside of the post. A collision led to Sport Club Mavericks getting a freekick after 26 minutes play. Leandro de Castro hit a great ball. Pedrinho Guimarães showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Donato Saraiva in the 33rd minute of the match. 37 minutes into the match, Oscar Prado notched a goal, 1-1, to the right of Castanheiro SC's Pedrinho Guimarães. Pedrinho Guimarães was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Amadeu Prado showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nilson Veloso in the 41st minute of the match. In the 43rd minute, Umberto Dionísio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Eugênio Leme during the 44th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. The supporters of Castanheiro SC booed when Sport Club Mavericks was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Eugênio Leme didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Umberto Dionísio to strike the kick off in the second half. Amadeu Prado took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Umberto Dionísio, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 57th minute Anísio Alagoano shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amadeu Prado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 59 played minutes Castanheiro SC got a freekick which was hit by Célio Vianna. Romário Senadović took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 59th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Pedrinho Guimarães. Castanheiro SC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. In the 61st minute Benedito Mineiro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amadeu Prado saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Pedrinho Guimarães made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Donato Saraiva in the 66th minute of play. If Benedito Mineiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 75thth minute of the game Romário Senadović who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Castanheiro SC's Pedrinho Guimarães was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Benedito Mineiro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Nilson Veloso scored 2-1 in the 84th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Amadeu Prado, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 90th play minutes Mauro Sarmento shot 3-1, a short shot which went by Amadeu Prado and just under the crossbar into goal. An unexpectedly hard shot by Donato Saraiva in the 95th minute of play forced Castanheiro SC's goalkeeper Pedrinho Guimarães to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Anísio Alagoano hit a great freekick 96 minutes into the match. 97 minutes into the match, Sport Club Mavericks's goal looked a bit too open when Benedito Mineiro came free, but Amadeu Prado reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
