Gilson Neves's late challenge caught a MINEIROS's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Gilson Neves helped the player get up and apologised. Reinaldo Queiroz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Toninho Goiano in the 9th minute of play. After 10 played minutes Várzea F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Vivaldo Bueno. A collision led to Várzea F.C. getting a freekick after 15 minutes play. Edgard Travassos hit a great ball. Serginho Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jano Paiva, who was totally free with the ball in the 24th minute. After 31 minutes of play Várzea F.C.'s Gilson Neves was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. In the 32nd match minute, Várzea F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Gilson Neves to maneuver through the defense. When the match had gone on for 34 minutes, Hugo Albuquerque took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Reinaldo Queiroz to make any attempt to save it. After having played for 38 minutes, Edgard Travassos managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Várzea F.C.'s supporters crossed their fingers, but Edgard Travassos was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 40th minute, MINEIROS's Toninho Goiano ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Reinaldo Queiroz. Reinaldo Queiroz yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 2-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Luiz Guilherme Barreto stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After having played for 50 minutes, Toninho Goiano managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. MINEIROS's supporters crossed their fingers, but Toninho Goiano was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. If Nilson de Souza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 56th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 61 played minutes Várzea F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Miguel Marques. After a rather tough play, Várzea F.C.'s Miguel Marques got a free kick in the 62nd minute. Nico de Mendonça scored 3-0 in the 63rd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Reinaldo Queiroz, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 67th minute Benê Amorim shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Reinaldo Queiroz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Reinaldo Queiroz made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Hugo Albuquerque in the 69th minute of play. 69 minutes into the match, Hugo Albuquerque had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Reinaldo Queiroz. Várzea F.C.'s manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Hugo Albuquerque was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-0. After some careless play in the Várzea F.C. defense, Benê Amorim kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Reinaldo Queiroz. The Várzea F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Reinaldo Queiroz should have stopped the shot. Celso Secco charged in rather forcefully in the 75th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Celso Secco the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 75th minute, Celso Secco hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 81st minute, Nico de Mendonça ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Reinaldo Queiroz was frozen by the shot and now it was 6-0. After a rather tough play, Várzea F.C.'s Vivaldo Bueno got a free kick in the 85th minute. 90 minutes into the game, MINEIROS's Benê Amorim nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Reinaldo Queiroz made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 7-0. Reinaldo Queiroz didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Nico de Mendonça went, in the 93rd minute, to the upper right corner, 8-0 was the resulting score.
