In the 8th match minute, Wellington Phoenix was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Murillo Rodrigues to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 9th minute, Elano Coutinho managed to get in a good position for a shot. Vila Zumbi's supporters rose to their feet, but Elano Coutinho was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Zeca Santos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience thought a goal was coming when Virgílio de Medeiros got free with Geovanildo Mendi in the 12th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ronaldo Meirelles charged in rather forcefully in the 13th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ronaldo Meirelles the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Vila Zumbi getting a freekick after 13 minutes play. Ronaldo Meirelles hit a great ball. Gustavo Sabóia kicked well hit freekick during the 14th minute of the match. 16 minutes into the match, Vila Zumbi's goal looked a bit too open when Virgílio de Medeiros came free, but Geovanildo Mendi reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Belmiro Teixeira hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. If Magno Moreira had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 19th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. André Diniz recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 21st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 30 minutes into the match, Elano Coutinho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Zeca Santos. Wellington Phoenix's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Elano Coutinho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. In the 32nd match minute, Vila Zumbi was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agnaldo Amaral to maneuver through the defense. When Juarês Ceresso fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Wellington Phoenix's protests and gave Juarês Ceresso a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Wellington Phoenix getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Juarês Ceresso hit a great ball. After 46 minutes of play, Vila Zumbi's Agnaldo Amaral made it 0-3 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Zeca Santos was left in no man's land by his defense there! The Wellington Phoenix players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Vila Zumbi were winning 0-3.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Magno Moreira stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Wellington Phoenix's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Elano Coutinho 55 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 0-4. With a little luck, Wellington Phoenix's Zeca Santos got control of the ball when Geovanildo Cannavaro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Wellington Phoenix's Conrado Quadros was substituted for Alex Paulista. Wellington Phoenix made a substitution. Nilmar Linhares replaced Gustavo Sabóia. The audience was convinced that Ronaldo Meirelles's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Zeca Santos was relentless in the 78th minute of the game. In the 79th minute, Nilmar Linhares hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Magno Moreira kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. The Wellington Phoenix fans had already started to leave before the final whistle blew. Vila Zumbi were clearly better and deserved to take the win.
