FC Bruges's Luc Van Hinnendael played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Guido Vissenaeken in the 5th minute of play. In the 9th minute Guido Vissenaeken shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Luc Van Hinnendael saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 13 minutes into the match, Guido Vissenaeken had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Luc Van Hinnendael. FC Bruges's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Guido Vissenaeken was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-0. Guido Vissenaeken blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Luc Van Hinnendael having to make a save. Luc Van Hinnendael made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Laurențiu Roşculeţ in the 20th minute of play. If Dries Philipsen had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luc Van Hinnendael showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Guido Vissenaeken in the 28th minute of the match. 30 minutes into the match, Brugge United's goal looked a bit too open when Xavies Muñagorri came free, but Vítor Baia reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Xavies Muñagorri sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 35 minutes into the match, Brugge United's Guido Vissenaeken sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Luc Van Hinnendael narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Guido Vissenaeken in the 39th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Luc Van Hinnendael saved FC Bruges from getting behind. After some careless play in the FC Bruges defense, Guido Vissenaeken kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Luc Van Hinnendael. The FC Bruges fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Luc Van Hinnendael should have stopped the shot. Brugge United walked away with a well-earned victory that was much celebrated by the crowd.
