In the 10th match minute, AD Oliveirense was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Hugo Manso to maneuver through the defense. The audience thought a goal was coming when Hugo Manso got free with Miguel Poças in the 13th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. AD Oliveirense's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Fabrício Baía in the 14th minute. In the 18th minute, José Bomba left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The F.C. Paços de Ferreira fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. 20 minutes into the match, F.C. Paços de Ferreira's goalkeeper Miguel Poças had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Dave Nash. Júlio César showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Hong Xi Bin in the 30th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Bomba in the 36th minute of play forced AD Oliveirense's goalkeeper Júlio César to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A very good chance for a goal. 40 minutes into the game, André Fraga was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. AD Oliveirense's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave F.C. Paços de Ferreira the free kick. Júlio César took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from José Bomba, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. João Maia hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. AD Oliveirense's Júlio César played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by José Bomba in the 47th minute of play. The AD Oliveirense players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. F.C. Paços de Ferreira were winning 0-1.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell José Bomba to make the kick off. José Bomba might have been able to make a better finish in the 53rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Júlio César. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. José Bomba ran back to his position shaking his head. Júlio César made a fantastic save in the 53rd minute, when José Bomba sent off a good shot on target. In the 56th minute Marco Espírito Santo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miguel Poças saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 58th minute, F.C. Paços de Ferreira's José Bomba ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Júlio César. Júlio César yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 0-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by José Bomba in the 60th minute of play forced AD Oliveirense's goalkeeper Júlio César to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Thanks to some nice moves José Bomba could shoot a difficult shot in the 62nd minute, which Júlio César however easily saved by the left post. AD Oliveirense's Júlio César proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 65th minute of the match, managed to save AD Oliveirense from getting a goal against them. 68 minutes into the game, José Bomba cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-3. Júlio César was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. AD Oliveirense made a substitution. Xavier Vilar replaced Hugo Manso. F.C. Paços de Ferreira's Fabrício Travassos was substituted for João Maia. If José Bomba had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Júlio César made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from José Bomba in the 82nd minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling José Bomba in the 91st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Júlio César prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 92nd minute, José Bomba got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 95th minute Celedonio Berenguer shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Miguel Poças saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The F.C. Paços de Ferreira supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing F.C. Paços de Ferreira would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
