The audience thought a goal was coming when Angelo Pessoa got free with Júlio César in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 11 played minutes AD Oliveirense got a freekick which was hit by André Fraga. David Bastos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dave Nash in the 14th minute of play. Angelo Pessoa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 16th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Júlio César having to interfere. 23 minutes had been played when some careless play by AM United's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Fabrício Baía was slow to take the kick. During this time AD Oliveirense's players had a chance to rest. 24 minutes into the match, AD Oliveirense's goalkeeper Júlio César had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Angelo Pessoa. AM United were awarded a corner in the 25th minute after AD Oliveirense's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Jorge Morais took the corner. AM United's Jorge Morais was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Júlio César in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. AD Oliveirense's Dave Nash got a good chance for a goal in the 27th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Marco Espírito Santo in the 32nd minute of play forced AM United's goalkeeper David Bastos to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The home crowd let out a huge roar when the referee blew for the end of the game. AM United were victorious despite being under pressure from AD Oliveirense for much of the match.
