An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberigo Sessa in the 5th minute of play forced Academica Pulheim's goalkeeper Paul Heyckendorf to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Don Merlot's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paul Heyckendorf read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 7th minute of play. Timo Courtois came out of the goal in the 10th minute to try and stop a shot by Academica Pulheim's Kurt Ahrem. But to his dismay, Kurt Ahrem quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. In the 18th minute Alex Mansilha shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Timo Courtois saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sergio Ramos got a throw-in 20 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Joachim Kretschmer. In the 22nd minute Alberigo Sessa shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Paul Heyckendorf saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Paul Heyckendorf came out of the goal in the 24th minute to try and stop a shot by SSV Ulm 1846's Don Merlot. But to his dismay, Don Merlot quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-1. After 27 played minutes Academica Pulheim got a freekick which was hit by Reinhard Baum. Don Merlot could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 30th minute of the match, but Paul Heyckendorf made a huge save. In the 33rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Academica Pulheim's goalkeeper Paul Heyckendorf, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. After 34 minutes Academica Pulheim's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Sven-Olof Lilja who took care of the corner kick. After taking down the ball on SSV Ulm 1846's corner Sven-Olof Lilja fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Paul Heyckendorf quite easily take care of the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 2-1. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Don Merlot was the one to do the kick off. Paul Heyckendorf showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Don Merlot in the 53rd minute of the match. Don Merlot sent away a hard shot on goal in the 59th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Academica Pulheim made a substitution. Zbigniew Setara replaced Kurt Ahrem. Don Merlot's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Paul Heyckendorf read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 61st minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Don Merlot in the 79th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Paul Heyckendorf saved Academica Pulheim from getting behind. A nice corner shot did that Sven-Olof Lilja got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Paul Heyckendorf quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. Paul Heyckendorf took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alberigo Sessa, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Timo Courtois made an important save on a dangerous shot by Hugó Bøss in the 94th minute. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. SSV Ulm 1846 had won after a very even match.
