In the 12th minute of the match, Tory Pryor tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Timo Courtois saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. In the 14th minute Don Merlot shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lionel Paly saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tory Pryor did some fancy footwork in front of goal and succeeded to deceive the defenders so he could slam the ball in 1-0 to the left of a surprised Timo Courtois 17 minutes into the match. Timo Courtois made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Emery Heller in the 21st minute of play. SSV Ulm 1846's Timo Courtois played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Téo Rosa in the 23rd minute of play. In the 24th minute Don Merlot shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lionel Paly saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Don Merlot in the 25th minute of play forced FC Wil 1900's goalkeeper Lionel Paly to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 28 minutes into the match, Don Merlot had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lionel Paly. FC Wil 1900's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Don Merlot was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. When the match had gone on for 39 minutes, Téo Rosa took a quick shot and it went in 2-2 without a chance for Timo Courtois to make any attempt to save it. 44 minutes into the match, FC Wil 1900's goal looked a bit too open when Don Merlot came free, but Lionel Paly reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 46th minute, Bernhard Zollinger hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The score stood at 2-2 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Tory Pryor made a kick off. SSV Ulm 1846's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Sven-Olof Lilja in the 80th minute. Sven-Olof Lilja made a great header on SSV Ulm 1846's corner, it was just that FC Wil 1900's Lionel Paly managed to reach the ball for a save. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 82 minutes into the match, SSV Ulm 1846's Don Merlot sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Lionel Paly narrowly saved just below the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Alberigo Sessa in the 89th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lionel Paly saved FC Wil 1900 from getting behind. A collision led to SSV Ulm 1846 getting a freekick after 90 minutes play. Stephane Bosch hit a great ball. Timo Courtois took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tory Pryor, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side.
