The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Damian Macovei showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luca Mureșan in the 5th minute of the match. Rui Costa blasted a shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Iustinian Purcărete having to make a save. Iustinian Purcărete made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rui Costa in the 12th minute. In the 19th minute the ball was on its way in behind -BZF- Viitorul Buzau's goalkeeper Iustinian Purcărete, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Damian Macovei took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Petru Pamfil, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Damian Macovei showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Luca Mureșan in the 27th minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in -BZF- Valea Buzăului's zone, Petru Pamfil stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Damian Macovei came out of the goal and Petru Pamfil tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Basarab Dogaru recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 34 minutes into the game, Andriy Shevcenko lined in a short shot 1-0 behind a frustrated Iustinian Purcărete. After having played for 37 minutes, Andriy Shevcenko managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. -BZF- Valea Buzăului's supporters crossed their fingers, but Andriy Shevcenko was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Andriy Shevcenko's late challenge caught a -BZF- Viitorul Buzau's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Andriy Shevcenko helped the player get up and apologised. After 41 played minutes -BZF- Valea Buzăului got a freekick which was hit by Andriy Shevcenko. 46 minutes into the match, -BZF- Viitorul Buzau's goalkeeper Iustinian Purcărete had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Pipo Inzaghi. 47 minutes into the match, Andriy Shevcenko notched a goal, 2-0, to the right of -BZF- Viitorul Buzau's Iustinian Purcărete. Iustinian Purcărete was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

After some fancy dribbling in the 54th minute, Cezar Berevoescu managed to get in a good position for a shot. -BZF- Valea Buzăului's supporters rose to their feet, but Cezar Berevoescu was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Iustinian Purcărete breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Iustinian Purcărete showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Andriy Shevcenko in the 61st minute of the match. Andriy Shevcenko fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 62nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Iustinian Purcărete having to interfere. 69 minutes into the game, -BZF- Valea Buzăului's Pipo Inzaghi nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Iustinian Purcărete made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 4-0. 74 minutes into the game, one of -BZF- Viitorul Buzau:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. -BZF- Viitorul Buzau:s Iustinian Purcărete showed great skill when he stopped Andriy Shevcenko:s penalty. A collision led to -BZF- Viitorul Buzau getting a freekick after 81 minutes play. Traian Muntean hit a great ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Rui Costa in the 84th minute of play forced -BZF- Viitorul Buzau's goalkeeper Iustinian Purcărete to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Rui Costa struck a weak shot in the 88th minute. Iustinian Purcărete didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for -BZF- Valea Buzăului. When Petru Pamfil fell near the penalty area in the 89th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored -BZF- Viitorul Buzau's protests and gave Petru Pamfil a yellow card for diving instead. After a rather tough play, -BZF- Viitorul Buzau's Petru Pamfil got a free kick in the 89th minute. Iustinian Purcărete showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Andriy Shevcenko, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. In the 96th minute the ball was on its way in behind -BZF- Viitorul Buzau's goalkeeper Iustinian Purcărete, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. For all the effort they put into the match, the -BZF- Viitorul Buzau players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for -BZF- Valea Buzăului.
