Wellington Phoenix's Vykan Víkingsson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Mohora in the 9th minute of play. 11 minutes into the match, Wellington Phoenix's 詹俊 á Bø sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Wawrzyniec Brytan narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Vykan Víkingsson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Juliusz Gardocki, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Wawrzyniec Brytan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Teofilo Unai, who was totally free with the ball in the 15th minute. The Wellington Phoenix fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Vykan Víkingsson should have stopped the shot. After the first half KS Junior were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

KS Junior's Piotr Bronkala was substituted for Juliusz Gardocki. Vykan Víkingsson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Cristian Mohora's shot from short distance in the 54th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by 詹俊 á Bø in the 55th minute of play forced KS Junior's goalkeeper Wawrzyniec Brytan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 60th minute Teofilo Unai shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wawrzyniec Brytan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Vykan Víkingsson was a little too slow when Cristian Mohora got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 94th minute. The score was now 0-3. KS Junior's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
