Hans-Jürgen Pötscher showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Aqil Mövsümov, who was totally free with the ball in the 11th minute. In the 13th minute Robin Steckamp shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mänsur Rzayev saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Michael-Jan Schönberg hit a great freekick 14 minutes into the match. 15 minutes into the game, Aqil Mövsümov cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 0-1. Hans-Jürgen Pötscher was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Azerbaijan's Mänsur Rzayev played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Robin Steckamp in the 25th minute of play. Adrian Meinhardts short, quick shot in the 25thth minute got Mänsur Rzayev to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. When Adrian Meinhardt in the 25th play minute got the chance to kick a hard shot on goal from short distance neither the defense or Mänsur Rzayev kept up with the ball and suddenly the score was 1-1 when the ball slipped into goal inside the left pole. Mänsur Rzayev tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Adrian Meinhardt in the 51st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Mänsur Rzayev prevented the ball from getting in the gole. The audience was convinced that Adrian Meinhardt's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Mänsur Rzayev was relentless in the 51st minute of the game. Austria's Hans-Jürgen Pötscher proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 53rd minute of the match, managed to save Austria from getting a goal against them. Mänsur Rzayev made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Adrian Meinhardt in the 57th minute of play. When the match had gone on for 64 minutes, Adrian Meinhardt put it in 3-2 from a short distance just to the right of Mänsur Rzayev. After some careless play in the Azerbaijan defense, Robin Steckamp kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Mänsur Rzayev. The Azerbaijan fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Mänsur Rzayev should have stopped the shot. Robin Steckamp fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 79th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mänsur Rzayev having to interfere. Austria made a substitution. Torben Krabber replaced Sebastian Dirkes. Austria's Daniel Tschida was substituted for Robin Steckamp. If Äliqulu Vermäliyev had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 87th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Mänsur Rzayev stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Daniel Tschida's shot from short distance in the 89th minute. Austria's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Michael-Jan Schönberg in the 90th minute. Michael-Jan Schönberg made a great header on Austria's corner, it was just that Azerbaijan's Mänsur Rzayev managed to reach the ball for a save. For all the effort they put into the match, the Azerbaijan players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Austria.
