Vilgot Fransson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Olivier Ostermann in the 23rd minute of the match. In the 29th minute Brian Laudrup shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lew Maurer saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Olivier Ostermann scored 0-1 in the 37th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Vilgot Fransson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. If Olivier Ostermann had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. KFC Uerdingen 05's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave FC Wil 1900 the free kick. The supporters of FC Wil 1900 booed when KFC Uerdingen 05 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 52 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rui Costa didn't get a good kick on the ball. Vilgot Fransson made a fantastic save in the 54th minute, when Karim Gerber sent off a good shot on target. After 59 played minutes FC Wil 1900 got a freekick which was hit by Elia Walther. Thanks to some nice moves Karim Gerber could shoot a difficult shot in the 62nd minute, which Vilgot Fransson however easily saved by the left post. Vilgot Fransson was annoyed at himself for letting in the shot. After 69 played minutes KFC Uerdingen 05 got a freekick which was hit by Rui Costa. Vilgot Fransson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Roland Cirella, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. Olivier Ostermann who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 78thth minute tested the skills of Vilgot Fransson when he managed to save the team from getting behind. The score was now 1-3. 85 minutes into the match, FC Wil 1900's goal looked a bit too open when Brian Laudrup came free, but Lew Maurer reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 89th minute of the match Sidney Seiler shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Vilgot Fransson showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. FC Wil 1900 had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
