Astor Transito showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gustavo-Hernán Cadelo in the 22nd minute of the match. In the 24th minute, Horacio Cordarin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience thought a goal was coming when Marcial Isaio got free with Gustavo Gustavson in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After a defensive mix-up in New Joinville - FSCMZ's zone, Gabríel Batistuta stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gustavo Gustavson came out of the goal and Gabríel Batistuta tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 40th minute Hugo Favoretto shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Astor Transito saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 43rd minute, Juan Sorin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

In the 86th minute, Gabríel Batistuta made a precise shot to the right of Gustavo Gustavson. New Joinville - FSCMZ's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-0.
