An unexpectedly hard shot by Ramon Gomez in the 15th minute of play forced Darwen's goalkeeper Brendon Edworthy to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After having played for 17 minutes, Jaime Manex managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Boulogne's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jaime Manex was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. After a rather tough play, Boulogne's Clemente Aurken got a free kick in the 21st minute. Ty Turnbull could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Prudencio Piarres made a huge save. Gervasio Harkaitz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 26th minute. Abraham Bartlett hit a great ball. Ramon Gomez fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brendon Edworthy having to interfere. Prudencio Piarres stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Brendon Winstanley's shot from short distance in the 32nd minute. After the first half Boulogne were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Brendon Winstanley to strike the kick off in the second half. Prudencio Piarres showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Brendon Winstanley, who was totally free with the ball in the 54th minute. Prospero Maura received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Brendon Edworthy tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When Severino Iraunkor came up free with the goalie in the 62nd minute, the Boulogne fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Severino Iraunkor couldn't finish the play. The supporters of Boulogne booed when Darwen was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ed Kenworthy didn't get a good kick on the ball. After 70 minutes, Rupert Boothroyd mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Darwen and the Boulogne players grew even worse after the yellow card. Boulogne's Elvio Seme was substituted for Prospero Maura. In the 72nd match minute, Darwen was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rupert Boothroyd to maneuver through the defense. When Ted Pilgrim fell near the penalty area in the 91st minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Darwen's protests and gave Ted Pilgrim a yellow card for diving instead. After 91 played minutes Darwen got a freekick which was hit by Ted Pilgrim. Ramon Gomez sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ty Turnbull received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 97th minute. Prudencio Piarres tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. When the match was over Boulogne could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Darwen throughout the match.
