Itajaí Football Club's André Luís King was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Bruce Nesbitt in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. After 13 minutes, Rudolph Saunders mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Cosmos Soccer Club and the Itajaí Football Club players grew even worse after the yellow card. Paulo Mattos showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Weldon Velasco in the 17th minute of the match. In the 24th minute, Juarês Gerber hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The crowd rose to their feet as Itajaí Football Club's Jailson de Senna slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Bruce Nesbitt. That made the score 1-0 after 30 minutes of play. Bruce Nesbitt showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jailson de Senna, who was totally free with the ball in the 38th minute. Paulo Mattos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Russ Thorne in the 39th minute of play. Cosmos Soccer Club were awarded a corner in the 40th minute after Itajaí Football Club's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Cyrus Crouch took the corner. The corner led Cosmos Soccer Club's Cyrus Crouch to fire away a dangerous shot which Paulo Mattos despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Sid Hart during the 41st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Sid Hart kicked well hit freekick during the 41st minute of the match. After having played for 43 minutes, Jailson de Senna managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Itajaí Football Club's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jailson de Senna was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jailson de Senna made a kick off. In the 53rd match minute, Cosmos Soccer Club was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Claude Tuttle to maneuver through the defense. The supporters of Itajaí Football Club booed when Cosmos Soccer Club was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 54 match minutes in a wonderful position. Franklin Willingham didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 60th minute, Jailson de Senna left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Itajaí Football Club fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 3-0. Rubens Pinheiro, 81 minutes into the match, dribbled the ball up the side of the field and decided to take a long shot at the goal. Bruce Nesbitt stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jailson de Senna's shot from short distance in the 93rd minute. Bruce Nesbitt made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from André Piovezan in the 95th minute of play. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Itajaí Football Club fully deserved thier win.
