The Academia Rio fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Gigel Tilea should have stopped the shot. Academia Rio were awarded a corner in the 14th minute after A4p FC Gad's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Lucian Petriceanu took the corner. In the 17th match minute, A4p FC Gad was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Olle Olsson to maneuver through the defense. Glenn Fyfe acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 18th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Lucian Petriceanu. The audience was convinced that Basarab Irod's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Glenn Fyfe was relentless in the 19th minute of the game. An unexpectedly hard shot by James Batistuta in the 37th minute of play forced Academia Rio's goalkeeper Gigel Tilea to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 44 minutes into the match, King Scorpio had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Gigel Tilea. Academia Rio's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that King Scorpio was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-3. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Academia Rio's Dorel Nedelciu was substituted for Basarab Irod. Gigel Tilea made a fantastic save in the 97th minute, when Gică Busuioc sent off a good shot on target. When the final whistle was heard the away supporters stood up and showed their joy. A4p FC Gad had managed to secure a win in what was a close match throughout.
