José Vítor Netto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Dave Mathy, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 10 minutes into the game, Gnesta Oilers's Alejo Veliz nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. José Vítor Netto made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-1. Faik Malgır hit a great freekick 12 minutes into the match. Maurício Félix kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Dave Mathy in the 16th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck José Vítor Netto prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Botafogo MZRJ's José Vítor Netto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Karl-Ove Söderström in the 24th minute of play. José Vítor Netto showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alejo Veliz in the 26th minute of the match. In the 29th minute, Botafogo MZRJ's Álvaro Melo seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Álvaro Melo the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Botafogo MZRJ protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Álvaro Melo had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. In the 29th minute, Álvaro Melo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 37th match minute, Botafogo MZRJ was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Isaltino Gomes to maneuver through the defense. José Vítor Netto took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Alejo Veliz, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jailson Capixaba struck a weak shot in the 40th minute. Patrick Eliasson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Botafogo MZRJ. José Vítor Netto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alejo Veliz in the 42nd minute of play. 46 minutes into the match, Botafogo MZRJ's goal looked a bit too open when Karl-Ove Söderström came free, but José Vítor Netto reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When Alberto Novaes fell near the penalty area in the 47th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Botafogo MZRJ's protests and gave Alberto Novaes a yellow card for diving instead. Alberto Novaes kicked well hit freekick during the 47th minute of the match. The first half was very even, with the score at 1-1 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Karl-Ove Söderström to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute Jailson Capixaba shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Patrick Eliasson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 55 minutes into the game, Karl-Ove Söderström cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-2. José Vítor Netto was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Jailson Capixaba recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 68 minutes into the match, Botafogo MZRJ's goalkeeper José Vítor Netto had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Alejo Veliz. Karl-Ove Söderström fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 70th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without José Vítor Netto having to interfere. Botafogo MZRJ's supporters rose to their feet, but Jailson Capixaba was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Patrick Eliasson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by John Dahlquist in the 76th minute of play forced Botafogo MZRJ's goalkeeper José Vítor Netto to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Gilmar Couto scored 2-2 in the 89th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Patrick Eliasson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Through an outstanding action, after 93 minutes, José Vítor Netto successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. The audience thought a goal was coming when Dave Mathy got free with José Vítor Netto in the 95th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After some fancy dribbling in the 96th minute, Serginho Azevedo managed to get in a good position for a shot. Botafogo MZRJ's supporters rose to their feet, but Serginho Azevedo was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Patrick Eliasson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Gnesta Oilers were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
