When Fernandão Recife came up free with the goalie in the 47th minute, the Montevideo fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Fernandão Recife couldn't finish the play. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

Montevideo's Olavo Matorin got a good chance for a goal in the 53rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 65th match minute, Montevideo was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Mário Maranhense to maneuver through the defense. David Barreto received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Ronaldo Medeiros tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 73rd minute, Edu Neto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bray McJon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 77th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Montevideo had won after a very even match.
