Laerte Lucas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the match, but Flavinho Reis made a huge save. In the 25th minute Montevideo were awarded a corner. Wilson Fernandez went to the cornerflag to take it. A nice corner shot did that Wilson Fernandez got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Flavinho Reis quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 26 minutes into the match, Montevideo's Laerte Lucas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Flavinho Reis narrowly saved just below the crossbar. In the 29th minute, Montevideo's Olavo Matorin ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Flavinho Reis. Flavinho Reis yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-0. The Montevideo fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 4-0. In the 89th minute, Celsinho Castro hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The audience was convinced that Olavo Matorin's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Flavinho Reis was relentless in the 91st minute of the game. Montevideo's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
