The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 7th minute of the match Luís Gustavo Urbano sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Sylwester Zarobski skillfully saved the ball. Maurinho Vargas's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Sylwester Zarobski firmly grabbed it by the left post. In the 12th minute, Amílton de Andrade had to be helped off the field due to a pulled leg muscle. The supporters of Grêmio 20 Julho booed when Bandelocos was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 12 match minutes in a wonderful position. Rafael Sobis didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bandelocos's Nilson do Vale played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Valdir Cavalcante in the 14th minute of play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Rafael Sobis got free with Sylwester Zarobski in the 17th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Tiaguinho Saldanha had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 24th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 28th minute Téo Pires shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Nilson do Vale saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Nilson do Vale showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zé Carlos Pernambucano in the 29th minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gilmar Romero in the 31st minute of play forced Bandelocos's goalkeeper Nilson do Vale to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Sylwester Zarobski was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Luiz Guilherme Varela showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 1-0 in the 35 minute of play. Téo Pires sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Sylwester Zarobski made a fantastic save in the 47th minute, when Rafael Sobis sent off a good shot on target. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Vítor Matorin's late challenge caught a Bandelocos's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Vítor Matorin helped the player get up and apologised. After a defensive mix-up in Bandelocos's zone, Valdir Cavalcante stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nilson do Vale came out of the goal and Valdir Cavalcante tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sylwester Zarobski made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rafael Sobis in the 64th minute of play. 66 minutes into the game, Valdir Cavalcante recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Nilson do Vale. Valdir Cavalcante showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-1. Valdir Cavalcante's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nilson do Vale read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 69th minute of play. After 70 played minutes Grêmio 20 Julho got a freekick which was hit by Téo Pires. With a little luck, Bandelocos's Nilson do Vale got control of the ball when Valdir Cavalcante tried to sneak it across the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Bandelocos's zone, Valdir Cavalcante stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nilson do Vale came out of the goal and Valdir Cavalcante tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Sylwester Zarobski showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Betão Quirino in the 76th minute of the match. 78 minutes into the match, Grêmio 20 Julho's Valdir Cavalcante sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Nilson do Vale narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 80 minutes into the match, Rafael Sobis notched a goal, 2-1, to the right of Grêmio 20 Julho's Sylwester Zarobski. Sylwester Zarobski was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 82 played minutes Grêmio 20 Julho got a freekick which was hit by Humberto Soeiro. Bandelocos's Nilson do Vale proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 84th minute of the match, managed to save Bandelocos from getting a goal against them. 86 minutes into the match, Grêmio 20 Julho's goal looked a bit too open when Maurinho Vargas came free, but Sylwester Zarobski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
