He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Cesate's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Kay Stormlund in the 39th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Yalçın Erensoy prevented the ball from getting in the gole. In the 42nd minute Hulki Zaid shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Manolis Peridis saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A nice corner shot did that Halit Ziya Türkcan got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Manolis Peridis quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. In the 46th minute, one of Newells Old Boys:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Newells Old Boys. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
