Dean Verbruggen stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Chris Nygaard's shot from short distance in the 12th minute. Chris Nygaard fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 14th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dean Verbruggen having to interfere. When Ricky Mol fell near the penalty area in the 16th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored MVV Maastricht's protests and gave Ricky Mol a yellow card for diving instead. In the 16th match minute, MVV Maastricht was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ricky Mol to maneuver through the defense. Dean Verbruggen showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Mikkel Wulff, who was totally free with the ball in the 17th minute. When MVV Maastricht's Maarten Colen, in the 31st minute, received a pass right in front of the net, it looked like a certain goal, but his shot went outside. A wasted opportunity for MVV Maastricht. In the 44th minute Chris Nygaard shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dean Verbruggen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Chris Nygaard received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Dean Verbruggen tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-1 lead.

In the 54th minute Chris Nygaard shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dean Verbruggen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match had gone on for 56 minutes, Chris Nygaard took a quick shot and it went in 0-2 without a chance for Dean Verbruggen to make any attempt to save it. If Chris Nygaard had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. A collision led to MVV Maastricht getting a freekick after 64 minutes play. Gilbert Fleur hit a great ball. John Pothuizen made in the 67th minute of the game a quick throw-in and Alfred Oss immediately put the ball in play. In the 67th minute, Simon Bendtsen hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Maurits Ruben in the 70th minute of play forced Denmark's goalkeeper Keld Paulsen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 70th minute, Maurits Ruben left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The MVV Maastricht fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-2. An unexpectedly hard shot by Chris Nygaard in the 89th minute of play forced MVV Maastricht's goalkeeper Dean Verbruggen to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Chris Nygaard spun around in front of the goal 89 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of MVV Maastricht's goal. Denmark's Keld Paulsen played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Maarten Colen in the 91st minute of play. In the 92nd minute, Maurits Ruben hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 93 minutes into the game, Denmark's Chris Nygaard nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Dean Verbruggen made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-3. Denmark played a much better game than MVV Maastricht and deserved their victory. The MVV Maastricht players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
