Pecém were awarded a corner in the 4th minute after Marquês de Herval's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Ibon Obeso took the corner. Dida Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nicuşor Nebunu in the 20th minute of play. Xie Shu Tian recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 24th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 25 minutes into the match, Marquês de Herval's goal looked a bit too open when Xie Shu Tian came free, but Dida Taffarel reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. 28 minutes into the game, Xie Shu Tian cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-0. Dida Taffarel was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. In the 31st minute the ball was on its way in behind Marquês de Herval's goalkeeper Dida Taffarel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Ibon Obeso got free with Dida Taffarel in the 34th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Denílson Leão made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alfredo Martins in the 35th minute of play. Dida Taffarel showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Xie Shu Tian, who was totally free with the ball in the 39th minute. 43 minutes into the game, Xie Shu Tian recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Dida Taffarel. Xie Shu Tian showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Xie Shu Tian made a kick off. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Gaston Gonzalez during the 54th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Marquês de Herval's Gaston Gonzalez got a free kick in the 54th minute. In the 56th minute Ibon Obeso shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dida Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
