The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 12th minute of the game. One of A.A. Francana:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Castanheiro SC:s goal. The referee gave Castanheiro SC a penalty, 13 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Benedito Mineiro, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of A.A. Francana's Telmo Trigo. 0-1. In the 17th minute, Umberto Dionísio got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Umberto Dionísio took the ball and in the 20 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Telmo Trigo. Telmo Trigo dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. After a defensive mix-up in A.A. Francana's zone, Umberto Dionísio stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Telmo Trigo came out of the goal and Umberto Dionísio tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 27th match minute, A.A. Francana was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Cido Vinhas to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to A.A. Francana getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Kiko Santos hit a great ball. After 32 minutes of play A.A. Francana's Cido Vinhas was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. When Benedito Mineiro came up free with the goalie in the 34th minute, the Castanheiro SC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Benedito Mineiro couldn't finish the play. When the match had gone on for 39 minutes, Umberto Dionísio put it in 0-5 from a short distance just to the right of Telmo Trigo. A.A. Francana's Telmo Trigo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Magno Pereira in the 42nd minute of play. In the 45th minute, Umberto Dionísio made a precise shot to the right of Telmo Trigo. A.A. Francana's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-6. Disappointed in the 0-6 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Telmo Trigo made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Anísio Alagoano in the 52nd minute of play. Telmo Trigo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Magno Pereira, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The supporters of Castanheiro SC booed when A.A. Francana was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 61 match minutes in a wonderful position. Ruy Fantini didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Umberto Dionísio had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Umberto Dionísio who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 70thth minute tested the skills of Telmo Trigo when he managed to save the team from getting behind. In the 74th minute of the match, Umberto Dionísio got a very nice opportunity to score, but Telmo Trigo was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. If Benedito Mineiro had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 76th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Benedito Mineiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Telmo Trigo having to interfere. 89 minutes into the match, A.A. Francana's goalkeeper Telmo Trigo had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Benedito Mineiro. Benedito Mineiro blasted a shot towards the goal in the 91st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Telmo Trigo having to make a save. A.A. Francana's Telmo Trigo proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 92nd minute of the match, managed to save A.A. Francana from getting a goal against them. The supporters of Castanheiro SC booed when A.A. Francana was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 93 match minutes in a wonderful position. Evandro Mangueira didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Umberto Dionísio got free with Telmo Trigo in the 96th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Castanheiro SC played a much better game than A.A. Francana and deserved their victory. The A.A. Francana players were clearly disappointed as they left the ground.
