After a defensive mix-up in Marquês de Herval's zone, Dale Dolar stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Dida Taffarel came out of the goal and Dale Dolar tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Moussa Kabre hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. In the 25th minute Alfredo Martins shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vânderson Saa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Dale Dolar fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 27th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dida Taffarel having to interfere. The supporters of Barcellos Mineiro FC booed when Marquês de Herval was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Selami Rezan didn't get a good kick on the ball. Dale Dolar sent away a hard shot on goal in the 35th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Dida Taffarel showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dale Dolar in the 35th minute of the match. Eliézer de Carvalho hit a great freekick 36 minutes into the match. Barcellos Mineiro FC's Vânderson Saa played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alfredo Martins in the 40th minute of play. In the 44th minute, German Cano left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Marquês de Herval fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. After a rather tough play, Marquês de Herval's Nestor Paraibano got a free kick in the 46th minute. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The wind increased when Alfredo Martins made the kick off in the second half. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nestor Paraibano got free with Vânderson Saa in the 54th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The crowd rose to their feet as Alfredo Martins kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Vânderson Saa. That made the score 0-2 in the 56 minute of play. Celsinho Corrêa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 65th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Dida Taffarel having to interfere. Barcellos Mineiro FC's Olavi Vilo was substituted for Eliézer de Carvalho. An unexpectedly hard shot by German Cano in the 80th minute of play forced Barcellos Mineiro FC's goalkeeper Vânderson Saa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dida Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Dale Dolar in the 83rd minute of play. When Dale Dolar, who was free, got the in front of the goal in the 83 minute he wasn't focused and tipped the ball just over the goal. The Dida Taffarel was delighted since the ball would have got in if it had gone under the crossbar. Marquês de Herval's Acácio Cunha was substituted for Valentin Vizitiu. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nestor Paraibano in the 87th minute of play forced Barcellos Mineiro FC's goalkeeper Vânderson Saa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dida Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tang Yang Le, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Celsinho Corrêa in the 95th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Dida Taffarel saved Marquês de Herval from getting behind. Marquês de Herval's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
