Cristopher Damian really showed his touch with that goal: 1-1. Teofilo Unai took the ball and in the 12 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Hipolito Fritz. Hipolito Fritz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-2. U21 Chile's Hipolito Fritz played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ronaldo Barral in the 18th minute of play. Wellington Phoenix's Zeca Santos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristopher Damian in the 20th minute of play. Hipolito Fritz took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Teofilo Unai, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 23 minutes into the game, Ronaldo Barral cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-4. Hipolito Fritz was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Cristopher Damian could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 27th minute of the match, but Zeca Santos made a huge save. Teofilo Unai took the ball and in the 29 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Hipolito Fritz. Hipolito Fritz dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 1-5. 33 minutes into the game, Cristopher Damian recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Zeca Santos. Cristopher Damian showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-5. Wellington Phoenix's Teofilo Unai got a good chance for a goal in the 36th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Victor Hugo Painevilu sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 40th minute, Ronaldo Barral left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Wellington Phoenix fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-6. After a defensive mix-up in U21 Chile's zone, Teofilo Unai stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Hipolito Fritz came out of the goal and Teofilo Unai tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. A collision led to U21 Chile getting a freekick after 48 minutes play. Chupan Hoyo hit a great ball. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 2-6.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Teofilo Unai stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teofilo Unai in the 53rd minute of play forced U21 Chile's goalkeeper Hipolito Fritz to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zeca Santos stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mark Gonzalez's shot from short distance in the 90th minute. Zeca Santos showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristopher Damian, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. The Wellington Phoenix supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Wellington Phoenix would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
