In the 2ndth minute of the game Amador Menendo who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Fire Devils's Olaf Geiger was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Amílton Dantas made an important save on a dangerous shot by Zlatko Ibrahimović in the 4th minute. The crowd rose to their feet as Zlatko Ibrahimović kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Amílton Dantas. That made the score 1-0 in the 4 minute of play. With a little luck, Grêmio Meia Praia's Amílton Dantas got control of the ball when Zlatko Ibrahimović tried to sneak it across the goal line. Amílton Dantas made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Zlatko Ibrahimović in the 11th minute of play. When Grêmio Meia Praia's Amador Menendo in the 12th minute got a chance for a shot 12th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Fire Devils's goalie prevented a goal. When the match clock showed 12 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Amador Menendo sped through Fire Devils's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Olaf Geiger. Francisco Soeiro hit a great freekick 15 minutes into the match. The supporters of Fire Devils booed when Grêmio Meia Praia was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Luiz Gustavo Dante didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Grêmio Meia Praia's Hernani Terra got a free kick in the 19th minute. After recieving a nice pass, Fire Devils's Samuel Giger tried to score from far away in the 20th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Zlatko Ibrahimović sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Zlatko Ibrahimović had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 27th minute, Zlatko Ibrahimović got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Olaf Geiger made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Amador Menendo in the 30th minute of play. When the match clock showed 31 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Francisco Soeiro sped through Fire Devils's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Olaf Geiger. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Francisco Soeiro in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Olaf Geiger prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 1-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Edmílson Gaúcho was the one to do the kick off. 52 minutes into the match, Sven-Arne Bengtsson notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Grêmio Meia Praia's Amílton Dantas. Amílton Dantas was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After 55 played minutes Grêmio Meia Praia got a freekick which was hit by João Carlos Aguiar. After having played for 56 minutes, Edmílson Gaúcho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fire Devils's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edmílson Gaúcho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Iosif Vornic sent away a hard shot on goal in the 58th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Grêmio Meia Praia's Amílton Dantas played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Edmílson Gaúcho in the 59th minute of play. Amador Menendo took the ball and in the 66 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Olaf Geiger. Olaf Geiger dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-4. In the 69th minute Edmílson Gaúcho shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amílton Dantas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fire Devils's Olaf Geiger played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Amador Menendo in the 72nd minute of play. After a rather tough play, Fire Devils's Mitja Wollstadt got a free kick in the 74th minute. A collision led to Fire Devils getting a freekick after 76 minutes play. Mitja Wollstadt hit a great ball. In the 78th minute Iosif Vornic shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Amílton Dantas saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. If Edmílson Gaúcho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 79th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Fire Devils's Iosif Vornic got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After having played for 85 minutes, Edmílson Gaúcho managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Fire Devils's supporters crossed their fingers, but Edmílson Gaúcho was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 88th minute, Iosif Vornic got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Francisco Soeiro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 91st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Edmílson Gaúcho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 93rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Francisco Soeiro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Olaf Geiger having to interfere. The Fire Devils manager could be seen shouting at his players as they walked down the tunnel after the match. He was clearly angry that they had squandered their superior possession, allowing Grêmio Meia Praia to win.
